M42 J6 - Northern Bridge Closure

Date Posted 27/05/26

Following routine inspections, National Highways has identified deterioration in the condition of the bridge on the northern side of the M42 Junction 6 roundabout. They have now determined that the bridge needs to be demolished in the coming weeks and are working on a plan to reopen by spring 2027.

This means that no traffic is being permitted to cross the bridge.

What this means for your journey

  • Inbound traffic is not affected – although some delays may be experienced.
  • Traffic leaving the Southway can only access M42 Northbound.
  • All other exiting traffic is being diverted off site via the Eastway and Northway. (see attached)
  • Diversion routes are in place.
  • The M42 remains open in both directions beneath the bridge

Delays are possible so please allow extra time for your journey.
