M42 J6 Bickenhill Bridge - Weight and Lane restrictions

Date Posted 27/05/26

Routine inspections of the bridge at the northern side of the M42 junction 6 roundabout have identified deterioration in the condition of the structure. As a result, National Highways are taking precautionary steps to manage the load on the bridge deck while we carry out further investigations.

To help protect the structure and keep the junction open for the vast majority of traffic, a weight restriction for vehicles over 44 tonnes is already in place.

From 11 May 2026, there will also be a lane one closure on the roundabout.

What this means for your journey

  • Two lanes will remain open for traffic on the roundabout
  • Vehicles over 44 tonnes should follow signed alternative routes
  • Drivers may experience some congestion at peak times
  • The M42 remains open in both directions beneath the bridge
