HS2 Works: M42 Weekend Closure (23rd - 26th October)

Please be aware that HS2 works are taking place in the region. These works will see the M42 closed in both directions in both directions between J6 to 9 northbound and J9 to 7 southbound from 9pm on Friday 23 October 2026 to 5am on Monday 26 October 2026.

Visitors travelling to the NEC should allow extra time, especially if travelling during busy periods. Traffic management measures and diversion routes are in place to help keep visitors moving, and our teams are working closely with National Highways and local partners to minimise disruption. 

Getting to the NEC  

Access to the NEC remains open, although the following diversions have been put in place:   

• If you are travelling via the M42 Northbound, please leave the motorway at Junction 6 and follow the normal route to the NEC.  
• If you are travelling via the M42 Southbound, please leave the motorway at Junction 9 and follow the A446 Southbound to the NEC.  
  
  

Leaving the NEC  

• Customers should be aware that there will be no exit from the NEC via South Way and all exiting traffic must leave via North way or East Way
