Wireless Birmingham festival-goers encouraged to plan ahead

As Birmingham gears up to host Wireless Festival, Outdoor at the NEC Birmingham (8-10 July), festival-goers are being urged to plan ahead in terms of their transport to and from the festival site. With global stars like Dave, Cardi B, J. Cole Jack Harlow, Chris Brown and Wizkid performing, the event is set to welcome tens of thousands of music fans over three days as Europe’s biggest celebration of  contemporary black music.

The organiser of the event, Festival Republic, has conducted a travel survey with Wireless Birmingham ticket-holders to understand how people are travelling to and from the event. The survey results suggest just under half of ticket-holders plan to take the train home.

Mark Corbin, Director of Network Resilience, Transport for West Midlands said:

“There’s great links to the event by train, bus and car – however we’re still asking festival-goers to plan ahead and allow enough time for their journey so they can get there on time and enjoy their day out.

“Stations will be very busy to and from the festival, so bear in mind you may need to wait longer than usual for a train or bus.’

Gary Masters, General Manager for the NEC Campus said:

“We are working closely with the train operators and the travel demand team at Transport for West Midlands, but there is a risk festival-goers may not get onto the limited number of trains running after 10:30pm as they will be very busy.

“We suggest ticket-holders make a back-up plan for going home should they not get onto a train.”

There are a number of transport options available, including pre-booking parking, local bus services, a pick up and drop off zone at the NEC or booking a ticket with Big Green Coach.

Transport for West Midlands has set up a major event Wireless page with travel options: https://www.tfwm.org.uk/wireless.
