This is one of the most fulfilling hobbies to take-up whatever age you are and creating your perfect house or room setting is both satisfying and a little easier on the wallet than the full size equivalent! Those involved in the hobby agree that creating your dream home is a labour of love with some houses taking many years to complete.
The attention to detail is what really matters to the avid dolls house collector who will look for perfection in miniature for the exterior and interior of each house. Dolls houses come in all shapes and sizes and eras from medieval to post-war with interiors to match. You can buy parquet flooring, pebble dash, leaded glass, oak beams and even replica Bakelite. The most popular size for houses is 1/12th scale and these are mostly purchased in kit form and DIY assembled or you can commission a house to be made.
Andy Hopwood, Miniatura organiser, commented, “We have been running the show for over 25 years now and there is still a steady stream of newcomers to the hobby as well as the dedicated enthusiasts who have been involved in the hobby for a number of years. Each year we continue to be amazed at some of the tiny creations that are simply astounding in their detail and realism”.
Miniatura is one of the best dolls house and miniatures shows to visit whether you want to buy your first home or sixteenth or need an Aga for the new kitchen or want to commission an oil painting to hang over the fireplace in the sitting room.
