Launching into a national market

All Things Media saw a successful launch for their Electrical Design & Install Expo in September 2017 – and that success came as no surprise to organiser David Kitchener. ATM know all about translating trade magazines into trade shows based on database research. ATM had sounded out the electrical contractors sector through the extensive data and knowledge base created when the company acquired three new trade magazine titles to its existing portfolio in the electrical contractor, IT and data infrastructure sectors. The trade was calling out for a national show – and the ED&I Expo delivered it.

‘The in depth industry insight we have through our magazine databases helps us identify where there’s an opening for a successful show. We get under the skin of the industries we work with and find out what they want and need. The electrical contractor sector is massive – it’s worth £19billion – but very fragmented. We asked, they told us they wanted a national show, and ED&I Expo was born…based on our magazines, which helped us bring all the trade associations together, and the relationships we have with our advertisers and readers. We find that people who don’t advertise are often keen to exhibit, too – they like to meet their customers, and so do we. With a show you’re in front of them all, you can build your profile with networking and a physical presence that helps you increase business for both the magazines and the shows.

In a nutshell, if you’re publishing a leading magazine you have everything you need to spin off into the much more profitable world of exhibitions and associated events like awards presentations and networking dinners. With a show you can pull everyone together under one roof to press the flesh and do business.’
