Going green – with our Biomass Energy Centre
The NEC has been awarded Outline Planning Permission to build a Biomass Energy Centre.
This innovative ‘green’ Centre – a major first for the industry - will replace existing plant and machinery and save an estimated 135,000 tonnes of carbon annually.
The heat output will provide heating, absorption cooling and domestic hot water to the NEC and other local customers – as well as satisfying our entire electricity requirement, with any excess electricity being exported to the National Grid.
A Visitor Centre will include interactive exhibits illustrating the benefits of replacing fossil fuels with recycled wood biomass, provide a live case study for educational groups and engage with local community groups, the Institutes of Engineers and Chartered Foresters and Government organisations.
